Audi unveils updated A3

Audi unveils updated A3
Audi has revealed the model updates for the European-spec 2009 A3 and S3. Both are slightly larger than the previous version, and the S3 is now available in the 5-door Sportback version. The front of the A3 receives a freshened look including a more complex design around the grille and more modern headlights with optional bi-xenon units that incorporate LEDs. At the rear there is a modified tailgate and the taillight design uses fiber optic rods to create a pretty cool effect. The interior features new aluminum design trim and new colors and fabrics for the seats, and the controls for the audio system have been given a new look. As for the powertrain, the Euro-only diesel engines have been reworked to include an updated fuel injection system. All engine options are now available with the S tronic transmission, and the 1.6, 1.4 TFSI and 1.8 TFSI engines can be paired with a newly developed seven-speed version.

2009 Mazda

Mazda unveils 2009 Mazda6 for North America

Mazda has released the first photos and initial details on the new 2009 Mazda6. Designed specifically for North America, the car shares many cues with the Japanese and European-market cars that hit the scene over the last year. The car Americans and Canadians will drive is, in fact, bigger than its overseas counterparts. Visually, the front and rear fascias differ from the Japanese and European models as well. The USDM car gets a bisected grille and has its foglamps pushed out to the corners below the bumper. As we'd seen in spy photos, the car gets a completely different trunk, rear bumper, and exhaust treatment that's more appealing than the plainer setup Japanese and Europeans get.
Since Mazda released only exterior shots, we'll have to wait to see what the passenger accomodations look like. Base power comes from the same 2.5L four-cylinder base engine used in the Japan/Euro car, mated to either a 6-speed stick or 5-speed auto. The step-up 3.7L V6 is the same one you'll find under the hood of the CX-9. It's only transmission option is a six-speed auto with a manumatic sport shift feature. Horsepower and torque numbers for the USDM car haven't been released yet, but figure on seeing something in the neighborhood of 170 hp/166 lb-ft from the four. The six produces 273 horses and 270 lb-ft in CX-9 trim, so we'd expect something along those lines. Mazda's press release is pasted after the jump, in which you'll find no mention of either a wagon or 5-door hatchback variant. The '09 Mazda6 arrives as a sedan only, and it'll land in your local dealer showrooms later this summer.

2008 Bugatti Type 12-2 Streamliner

Maltese designer Reuben Zammit designed the Streamliner as a 2+2 with "ample luggage space." Though we're sure if Bugatti ever created such a car it would be decidedly more expensive than the Ferrari 612, cues from Maranello's
uber-GT can be seen in the Streamliner. But the nothing-but-curves approach gives it a Bugatti retro flair all its
own. The car would use a twin-turbocharged version of the W12 engine and be powered by the rear wheels only. That
would give the Streamliner rather un-Bugatti-like handling, which we think is even more reason to buy one.

A few months ago Racer X Design released the sketches of the KC-427, which is currently being built and expected to be shown as a fully built car by the end of the year. The streamliner is not intended for production, and is just one of the many designs that Racer X Design have come up with.

The streamliner is not intended for production, and is just one of the many designs that Racer X Design have come up with.Designed as an example of a luxurious four seater GT, the type 12-2 is the artwork of Reuben Zammit. The aim was to get the type 12-2 immediately recognizable, yet make a signature of it’s own for a specific marquee. A classic front engine rear wheel drive layout. The shape allows for a boot bigger than its rivals, yet keeping the lines flowing. The doors take a large part of the side and the roof for easier access. The idea is to use a VW derived W12 engine with a twin turbo layout hence the name 12-2. Although not as extravagant as the W16 used in the Veyron, there would be enough power to propel the Type 12-2 to over 200 mph.Racer X Design is a company that has designed and built some of the best show cars in the business winning first place awards in the XLR-8 live competition every time it competed with 4 different demo cars in 2 different classes for bodystyling.

2008 Bailey Blade Concept

These very nice sketches of a proper supercar are the work of Nick Bailey who wanted to create an affordable sportscar that captures the look and feel of old school cars but with today’s race technology and performance. He called it the Bailey Blade Concept. It’s not hard to see that his inspiration came from the stunning Shelby Cobra.Under the hood, Bailey has permission to a Roush V8 unit delivering 400 to 500 bhp. The engine compartment however is designed to accommodate most small block V8s including the newer Ford modular 4.6L engine. But according to the 35-year-old designer, the Blade will be available once it has been track tested and performs as expected with all the bugs worked out. His plan is to have it for sale by end of 2008.

Concept Behind the Blade

There were several ideas that went into the Blade Concept. First, I looked at just about every sports car on the road, both old and new to determine a style that would fit in with today’s cars. The idea was to incorporate modern and classic styling into a single flowing design. Many days were spent considering cars on the road and sketching ideas that came to me while sitting in traffic. The concept literally started from the ground up. Inspired by the legendary Shelby Cobra, the idea was to have something that had the raw power and look of the classic 60s cars, but with today’s suspension technology and performance characteristics of a modern sports car. Once an idea was conceived I designed the concept in CAD.
Many considerations went into the CAD development. The chassis was designed using an existing chassis from a Replica Cobra but with several modifications to accommodate a modern adjustable independent front and rear suspension. After the chassis was designed, work began on the body and the overall look of the car. I wanted to make it sleek, sexy and aggressive. From the very beginning there was one specific goal for this car; that was to make sure that tall people could fit in it comfortably and look good as well. Since I am 6′4″ it has always been difficult to fit into small sports cars. And not to mention the ridiculous look of a driver’s head peaking over the front windshield. Special precautions were taken to design the car in such a way that anyone who is 6′6″, possibly taller can easily fit into the car. I expanded the engine compartment to accommodate most engine and trans combinations, including enough room for big block and modular engines.
